Turning the ordinary into the extraordinary is something we enjoy and excel at. So when Business Objects asked us to promote a low-cost visualisation tool that turns dreary Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets into visually stunning, interactive presentations, we jumped at the chance.

Crystal Xcelsius™ brings data to life and makes even the driest facts and figures more interesting with brilliantly colourful charts, graphs and dashboards. We produced a digital campaign using emails and online banners targeted at small and medium businesses, focusing particularly on accountants, marketing, HR, finance, analysts and sales professionals.

To illustrate the benefits, we used a combination of digital illustration, photography, animation and the product itself to demonstrate a grey ‘Excel’ caterpillar metamorphosing into a colourful Crystal Xcelsius butterfly.

To stimulate response we gave people the opportunity to download a free trial version along with the chance to win one of five Microlight flights. The site also featured an interactive Career Predictor which allowed people to evaluate if their career was soaring or sinking.

The results really took off with 451 people downloading the free trial software, producing a conversion rate of 3.85% (almost double the target of 2%).

The campaign was Highly Commended in the Best Digital Campaign category of the 2007 B2B Marketing Awards.
